Featured Teacher: Frances
Originally from Hong Kong, Frances started learning yoga from her best friend way before this city had caught on to yoga's benefits. Initially, she turned to yoga for remedying earlier injuries. Now 14 years later, Frances finds ultimate joy and freedom in her practice.

How long have you been teaching?
Almost 6 years
Who was your very first yoga teacher and what was he/she like?
Nadya, she was my best friend in high school and was teaching freelance in Hong Kong (there weren't many studios at that time). She was physically very graceful and elegant, and at the start of her yogic journey.
How long have you been practising?
14 years
Originally, what attracted you to yoga?
It helped cure me of the aches and pains of the high impact sports of my youth.
What motivates you to practise today?
It helps me to be happy and free.
How would you describe your personal practice?
Mainly Ashtanga vinyasa, supplemented by Hot, Power and Yin, and starting to explore pranayama and meditation.
Before you became a yoga teacher, what did you do?
Corporate communications.
What do you love about teaching?
The opportunity to share how yoga has helped me.
What do you find challenging about teaching?
Keeping up the momentum to work on myself.
Describe your ideal class (as a teacher).
Group self-practice - we all practise together, inspiring and helping each other out.
Describe a class that you would find challenging or difficult (as a teacher).
A class where the students don't really want to be there.
What teacher has had the biggest impact on your practice?
For asana, Michel Besnard and Patrick, for Pranayama and Meditation it would be Varun. And for the practice of life, my friend Jenny and my brother Robert.
Aside from yoga, what other hobbies or interests do you have?
Swimming, hiking, running, biking, skiing, doing newsletters and looking after baby Abigail.
Describe your most profound yoga experience.
Giving birth.
If you weren't a yoga teacher, what would you be?
A full-time mum who practises yoga and does newsletters.
