Featured Teacher: Leah

Leah left her days as an investment professional behind when she found yoga and a more profound connection to life. Her biggest joy in teaching is the chance it affords her to create and inspire others to create, all the while delving into her higher self with every practice.

Where are you originally from?

California.

How long have you been teaching?
2 years.

Who was your very first yoga teacher and what was he/she like?
Ally Hamilton. She is a true yogi, spreading love and joy whether it is teaching in the studio or waiting in line at the grocery store. She truly practises what she preaches.

How long have you been practising?
7 years.

Originally, what attracted you to yoga?
Its fitness aspect.

What motivates you to practise today?
The opportunity to tap into Big Mind (my higher self, the cosmic consciousness, truth)

How would you describe your personal practice?
I'm just at the beginning...

Before you became a yoga teacher, what did you do?
Investment Management and Investor Relations.

What do you love about teaching?
It is an opportunity to create and inspire others to create.

What do you find challenging about teaching?
The enormous output of energy teaching requires - it can be challenging to remember to save some energy for myself.

Students with goals and expectations.

What teacher has had the biggest impact on your practice?
Ally Hamilton.

What is your most embarrassing moment in the studio (as a teacher or student)?
My most embarrassing moment in the studio was as a teacher. I was demonstrating a transition flipping out from Down Dog into Wheel and back to Down Dog when my hands, which I had put lotion on before class, slipped and I landed on top of my head.

Where is the strangest place you've practised yoga?
In the serviced apartment I stayed in when I first got to Hong Kong. It was so small that I couldn't completely unroll my mat and I had to manoeuvre around a TV, a closet, a coffee table, and a dining table.

Aside from yoga, what other hobbies or interests do you have?
I love the ocean, the sky and the beach. Also enjoy hikes, films, live music, books and world travel.

Describe your most profound yoga experience.
Every time I really connect to my breath.

If you weren't a yoga teacher, what would you be?
An aspiring writer.
